Reports to: Engineering Manager

Job Dimensions:

The job holder will have line management responsibility for the maintenance controller and nine maintenance technicians working a mixture of day shifts, 3 shift and weekend shift patterns.
The factory operates on 3 shifts Monday - Friday with a wide range of equipment from simple presses and welding equipment to complex, fully automated, PLC controlled plant and approximately 150 personnel.

Job Purpose:


To lead, develop and improve the maintenance team and maintenance of the factory assets
To develop and implement strategies and systems to improve the reliability and OEE of the factory
To improve the training, competence and work rate of the maintenance team.
To ensure all maintenance work is carried out safely, implementing and ensuring compliance to appropriate safe systems of work (PTW, hot work, entry permit, live electrical working etc)
To ensure all new equipment and modifications are installed and commissioned safely and effectively.
To implement and execute registers and schemes of inspection for all necessary statutory, regulatory, ACOP and planned preventative maintenance checks.
To be the site responsible control/electrical engineer ensuring full compliance with control, electrical and instrumentation regulations and approved codes of practice

Key Competencies and Experience:

Good quality degree and experience in control/electrical engineering
Experienced plant engineer and/or maintenance manager preferably from a large company background which operates to the highest health and safety standards (e.g. chemicals, steel etc)
Experience in the design, selection, commissioning and programming of complex PLC systems – particularly Siemens PLCs
Several years experience in both equipment design, maintenance and improvement of factory equipment – will have significant experience of factory control electrical engineering
Detailed knowledge and experience in the theory and application of PUWER, Electricity at Work, 17th Edition, IEE regs, ATEX/DSEAR, PSSR, LOLER, COSHH, and other relevant regulations
